Tasting Notes

Cuvee Jean-Paul (France)
Producer - Paul Boutinot

Cuvee Jean-Paul has been made for over twenty years. It is the premium house wine in the UK. Selected cuvees from southern and western France are blended to produce wines of elegance and flavour.

  Cuvee Jean-Paul Rouge (Red)   £24.99
Made from quality grapes sourced mainly from the south of France, this consistently superior red is soft, fruity and always very drinkable, yet serious enough to accompany food.
Cuvee Jean-Paul Blanc Sec (White)   £24.99
Consistently superior white wine made from quality grapes sourced mainly from the west and south of France - truly dry with fresh lively acidity and pure clean fruit on the palate, followed by long crisp finish.
  Cuvee Jean-Paul Blanc Demi-Sec (White)   £24.99
Consistently superior medium white wine made from quality grapes sourced mainly from the west and south of France - delightful and truly medium-dry, clean and slightly honeyed fruit balanced by nice natural acidity.
Marktree Soldier's Block (Australia)
Producer - Stephen Craig

These wines of refined quality come from the Windowrie Estate in New South Wales, Australia. The estate practises minimal intervention - no insecticides are used - ensuring that natural predators flourish. Grape varieties are planted according to soil type, irrigation method and training required for maximum quality and varietal fruit flavour.

Marktree Soldier's Block Chardonnay (White)   £29.99
This vibrant, peachy Chardonnay from New South Wales exhibits all the rich mouth-feel, weight and generosity of fruit expected while retaining acidity and offering more elegant melon and fig characters too; a touch of creaminess and leesy complexity also rewards on the finish.
Marktree Soldier's Block Shiraz (Red)   £29.99
This attractively fruity Shiraz is in a cooler-climate style, with quite concentrated (yet relatively withstrained) mulberry and black pepper notes combining with elegance and structure on the finish.
Champagne Gremillet (France)
Producer - Champagne Gremillet

Only the first, lightest pressings are used, as is usual for fine Champagne. Classic slow second fermentation in bottle followed by maturing on the lees before being disgorged.

  Champagne Gremillet Brut Rose   £39.99
This champagne shows fine mousse in the glass (meaning delicate bubbles as opposed to airy Angel Delight!) and attractive pinky colour, and it's good fruity stuff with ripe strawberry and vanilla rolling over your tongue. That's enhanced by classic baked biscuit flavours and crisp yeastiness.
  Champagne Gremillet Brut Selection   £34.99
Vinified from 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay, this champagne shows fine mousse in the glass (meaning delicate bubbles as opposed to airy Angel Delight!) and fresh floral aromas mixed with characteristic toasty yeast overtones, which are balanced by richer fruit and classic baked biscuit flavours with crisp citrus finish. International Wine Challenge 2000 Seal of Approval
Veuve de Bomonde Sparkling (France)
